MATERIALS

We develop our products to fulfil a need, creating thoughtfully curated collections that are designed for function. We’re always looking for ways to make our materials more sustainable and over 90% of our fabrics are made from post-consumer recycled waste.

our approach

We have two key points in mind when we’re designing new products - functionality and sustainability. In developing our fabrics, we start off with how we want the material to perform and keep this as a key focus. We need our materials to be durable, comfortable, long-lasting, and manufactured using sustainable techniques. Currently, the polyester component of all CLQ performance pieces is created using 76% recycled plastic bottles which otherwise would have ended up in landfill. This includes all compression tights, shorts, sports bras, performance tanks and tops. You’ll see a ‘recycled’ logo on each of these products on our website.

 The Process

Plastic bottles are collected and shredded to release any unwanted liquid which could affect the quality of the plastic.

Shredded bottles are then cleaned in a bath, this also helps to remove any stickers or labels, and the caps of the bottles float to the top and are strained off. Bottle caps are made from polypropylene, not PET, so cannot be used in the creation of polyester fabrics, but will be recycled into other products.

About 10 hours later, once dried, the plastic shreds are melted and formed into thread. These threads are then heated and stretched to create a fibre that’ll be able to be woven together to create our compression fabric.

The fibres are then carded and turned into polyester yarn that’s ready for use. This yarn is combined with Spandex and woven into the CLQ compression fabric we know and love.

Once the fabric is woven, it waits for our order and is dyed to colour on request. Our fabrics hold the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) 4.0 and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, which certifies there are no harmful dyes or chemicals used in the dying process of our fabrics.

1 pair of CLIQUE compression tights saves 26 550ml plastic bottles from landfill

MANUFACTURE

Every factory we work with holds the Health and Safety Management for Global Registrar of Systems (GRS). This policy is to provide a zero-harm work environment for employees and those affected by our work. We are committed to provide safe and healthy working conditions, prevent work related injury and ill health and eliminate hazards and reduce OH&S risks. We have a very close relationship with our factories and continuously ensure the people we work alongside are content in their work environment.

WASTE NOT

All of our pieces are trans-seasonal and created in small batches to ensure we are never over-producing and always minimising waste. Our factory holds our greige fabric in large quantities and is dyed on our request, creating consistency in the compression capability of our fabric and reducing carbon emissions created through transport from the fabric mill to our factories.

PACKAGING

All CLIQUE packaging is fully home compostable. Products are packaged in TÜV AUSTRIA OK Compost certified home compostable packaging, developed specifically for a slower-paced home composting environment. This certification guarantees complete biodegradability in your garden compost heap. We’re proud to be working alongside NZ owned compostable courier supplier r3pack. All of our courier bags are made with corn starch, PLA and PBAT and use non-toxic inks to providing a natural alternative to traditional plastic based courier bags certified to comply with the International Standards for home and commercial composting EN13432 / AS4736 / AS5810.

Freight and Distribution

Our goal for 2025 is to have 90% of freight transported to us from China by sea. Shipping by sea compared to air can reduce carbon emissions for freight by over 90%.

CARBON OFFSETTING

CarbonClick aims to help businesses offset the carbon produced by their product or activity. This allows our customers who are prepared to help, a simple, easy way to make their purchase carbon friendly. By clicking the Offset button, a small $ amount is added to your cart, but the money doesn’t come to us. Instead, your Carbon Offset purchase goes directly to CarbonClick, where you will fund projects like forestry (planting trees). The more trees planted, the more emissions absorbed.

CLOSING THE LOOP

Although we try to ensure our products are made to the highest quality, we do understand that sadly, all good things must come to an end. We see your compression tights lasting anywhere from 3 +, however, due to the intricate weaving technique of our fabric, separating the PET from the Spandex after your tights have run their course to be recycled, is a process we are still working on perfecting. Until we have this sorted, here are a few ideas for your end of life compression tights:

increase the lifespan of your clique by opting to resell on airrobe

AirRobe's Circular Wardrobe technology enables shoppers to add items to their new digital wardrobe from the CLIQUE’s product page. Customers can then choose to resell, rent, or recycle items on AirRobe's pre-loved designer marketplace later in seconds.

BEYOND REPAIR? LETS THINK OF WAYS TO REUSE THE FABRIC

If your Clique item is on it’s last legs, instead of throwing them out, try the one of the following:

  • Keep them for a day where you might need old clothes - painting, working in the garden.
  • If you like a scrunchie and are somewhat useful on a sewing machine, you can create one of our CLIQUE scrunchies with your old tights!
  • Used tights can make great cleaning rags - cut them up and keep them on hand for your next clean.

Have another idea of how you can reuse your Clique products? We would love to hear it.
